Richmond United FC is a community-based soccer club delivering programming through professional and volunteer team coaches. While many of our coaches are certified professionals, we also rely on parents stepping up where possible to supplement those coaches and share what they know with our players.
If you've got prior experience as a player and/or a coach, we'd love to help you give back.
If you have NO experience, don't worry - we're here to help with mentoring, coach clinics, and ultimately certification.
Richmond United FC supports coaches through:
Most of our volunteer coaches have little to no experience when their kids first start playing soccer, but our regular coach training sessions help parents understand the game better, run interesting and fun training sessions for their kids, as well as be a positive role model for kids in our community.
All Richmond United FC coaches (staff and team) must complete the Respect In Sport – Activity Leader online module, which takes approximately 2 hours. The Respect in Sport Activity Leader/Coach Program educates youth leaders, coaches, officials and participants (14-years and up) to recognize, understand and respond to issues of bullying, abuse, harassment and discrimination (BAHD).
Please contact info@rufc.ca for instructions. RUFC will cover the cost for this certification.
Any questions regarding coaching should be directed to David Thorburn, Technical Director, at davidt@rufc.ca.
Richmond United FC provides many development opportunities for coaches over the course of the year through the BC Soccer Coach Certification Courses, Coaching Clinics and mentorship and guidance from the RUFC Staff Coaches.
RUFC strongly believes that coach education and certification is key to player development, better coaches = better players, and is working towards ensuring all coaches within the club meet the required level of certification based on the stage of player development they are currently coaching.
The Coach Pathway image below provides an overview of the minimum certification requirements for each stage of development within the Long Term Player Development.
