Tyler Pronyk- President

email: tylerp@rufc.ca

Board focus: Governance and Strategy

A father of four with two kids in the RUFC program, Tyler's public affairs, human resources, and public consultation experience has steered RUFC's strategic review panel and streamlined board operations in ways not normally seen at a volunteer organization. The number of post-it notes that have died so that RUFC can thrive is incalculable but has been for the greater good.

An MBA with a specialization in strategic communications, Tyler has consulted with a litany of small to medium-sized businesses, non-profits, and political campaigns, but that carries far beyond youth sports. Tyler's connections in the community, his drive to build that community, and his work within the community are also felt in the arenas of housing and food security, immigrant services, environmentalism, and the fight to end MS.

Angela Louis- Vice President/ Co-Chair of Technical

email: angelal@rufc.ca

Board focus: Vice President/Co-Chair of Technical

Angela is new to the board, most recently being appointed Vice-President in the summer this year but not to  Richmond soccer. She is keen on building a strong sense of community among RUFC members. Her prior involvement with the club includes managing all three of her children’s teams at RUFC including a  team that made Provincials in 2023. Her eldest daughter is in post secondary and is currently a coach at RUFC  and a referee. Her son and youngest daughter play on a U18 and U13 team and are also referees. All 3 kids  were in both legacy RFC and RGSA/RUSC clubs.

On the days she’s not on the pitch, she works as a Registered Nurse at Vancouver Coastal Health. With  experiences in medical/surgical, critical care, and obstetrical units, her true passion is emergency nursing. Her  experience has made her proficient in working in extreme stressful situations while providing efficient care to  her patients and their families.

With Angela’s 15 years experience as a soccer parent and 8 years experience as a team manager Angela has seen the evolution of grass roots soccer in  Richmond and hopes to help RUFC navigate the next few years as the club evolves.

Adam Khong- Secretary/ Co-Chair of Volunteering

email: adamk@rufc.ca

A longtime Richmond resident and advocate for youth sports, Adam has deep roots in the community and is committed to fostering positive athletic experiences for local players.

Adam has over 25 years of experience in the construction industry, specializing in commercial, residential, industrial, and institutional projects, and he brings strong leadership, project management, and strategic planning skills to the RUFC Board.

Adam’s involvement with RUFC began in 2017 when his son, Hunter, joined the club. Since then, he has taken on multiple leadership roles, including coaching his son’s team and serving as the General Manager for all the boys' teams in the Advanced Development Program. Holding the necessary coaching accreditation, Adam brings both a strategic and hands-on approach to player development.

Rishi Sekhon- Treasurer/Chair of Finance

Board focus: Finance/Compliance

A father of two and a resident of Richmond for over 40 years, Rishi is a CPA with over 20 years of experience in compliance and governance, financial reporting and internal audit in the private and public sectors. His objective as part of the board is to provide financial oversight and help ensure financial decisions are made in the best interests of the organization.
Rishi’s involvement with youth sports began in 2017 when he coached his son with both the Richmond Jets and RFC. Over that period, he has coached his daughter in both softball and soccer and continues to coach with his son’s team in the U13 age group.

Rebeca Avendano-Co-Chair of Volunteering

email: rebecaa@rufc.ca

Board focus: Co-Chair of Volunteering

As a Richmond parent with two boys proudly playing for Richmond United Football Club, I’ve witnessed firsthand how this club  offers so much more than just soccer. It’s a place where children learn teamwork, responsibility, and leadership—and where  lifelong friendships are formed. For my family, RUFC has been a cornerstone of community, growth, and belonging, and I’m eager  to give back to an organization that has given so much to my children.

Professionally, I bring over 15 years of experience in leadership development, organizational culture, and community  engagement. In my current role as a Leadership Coach with the Provincial Health Services Authority, I work with leaders across the  province to build strong, inclusive teams and cultures of trust. I also bring a background in diversity, equity, and inclusion, having led initiatives that help organizations ensure all members feel seen, valued, and supported.

Before joining PHSA, I worked for the Richmond School District, where I led programs that helped newcomer and BIPOC families feel welcome and connected to  the community. I managed cross-functional teams, built partnerships, and supported initiatives that helped young people find their voice and sense of  belonging—values I see reflected in the Richmond United experience every week on the field.

Beyond my professional work, I’ve served on several community boards and advisory committees, including the Richmond Intercultural Advisory Committee, the  Richmond Caring Place Society, and Chrysalis Recovery Society, where I served as Board Chair. These experiences taught me the importance of good governance,  collaboration, and staying rooted in community values.

I hold a Master of Arts in Leadership from Royal Roads University, along with professional certifications in executive coaching and organizational development.  Fluent in English and Spanish, I value the power of connection and inclusion in helping communities thrive.

I believe sport is one of the most powerful ways to teach young people about respect, perseverance, and teamwork. As a board member, I hope to help  Richmond United continue to grow as a place where every child—regardless of background or skill level—can feel proud to belong, develop as a player, and  thrive as a person.

Andrea Friesen-Co-Chair of HR & Governance

email: andreaf@rufc.ca

Board focus: Co-Chair of HR & Governance

I am a lifelong Richmond resident and parent to two children – my 13-year-old daughter and  my 11-year-old son, who currently plays in the U12 ADP program with RUFC. As a long-term  member of the community, I am committed to contributing to organizations that build opportunities for youth and strengthen local connections.  Professionally, I have over 16 years of experience working within a provincial public-sector regulatory authority, with the past seven years being focused on policy development, training,  and implementation. I hold a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a focus in  Human Resources Management, and I am currently completing a Master of Public  Administration. My work has provided me with extensive experience in policy design, stakeholder engagement, and decision-making. I regularly collaborate with diverse groups in order to  develop balanced and inclusive policies that reflect multiple perspectives and uphold public  trust. I also have a strong background in training and public speaking, having presented to audiences of more than 1,000 people both in-person and online. I strive to apply an EDI lens  across all aspects of my work. Outside of work, I am actively involved in community and volunteer programs. I have  supported our elementary school PAC events, served as a Girl Guides leader, been “team mom” for my daughter’s all-star cheerleading team, and helped at local cheerleading competitions.

As both a parent and a community member, I support the continued growth and development of RUFC and want to be able to help maintain an environment where every player and their families feel valued, supported, and connected.

Garry Marcinowsky- Chair of Safety & Discipline

email: garrym@rufc.ca

Board focus: Discipline and Code of Conduct

Having a background in government and a long amateur playing career that has stretched from youth premier to masters, Garry is relatively new to the board but has worked diligently on anti-bullying initiatives, discipline, complaint policy, and code of conduct creation and adherence.

A long time coach in boys, girls, and adult women's soccer, as well as hockey, Garry has seen the damaging impact of bullying at multiple levels of sport and, while he is relatively new to the board, his deep understanding of best practices in the administration of youth sports is a skillset we rely heavily on to make RUFC the best club it can be.

Scott Marescaux-Co-Chair of HR & Governance

email: scottm@rufc.ca

Board focus: Co-Chair of HR & Governance

I am a lifelong soccer player, and excited by the opportunity to help RUFC develop in a positive way for  players, families and staff. I am a parent of two kids that play in RUFC, and have been coaching with the  program for various age levels during the last five years. In this time, I have developed relationships with  players, staff, and parents, along with an understanding of RUFC's mandate, philosophy and important  role in the community.

In my professional life, I am a lawyer with significant experience in governance issues, risk management,  negotiation, process-oriented dispute resolution, and litigation. I have advised boards, tribunals, societies and companies on a wide range of issues. I appear at all levels of court, in arbitrations, and at mediations as counsel for clients. I intend to use my legal knowledge, skills, and experience to assist the RUFC board with governance issues and decision-making processes. My objective in joining the RUFC board is to help ensure the club continues to develop policies and programs that move the club forward with thoughtful and strategic long-term planning.

This is his second time on the board at RUFC and its predecessor clubs, and he's also served as a director of the Richmond district association.

His goal at RUFC is to ensure the best possible program for both boys and girls is delivered to as many families as possible.

Raji Thandi- Co-Chair of Volunteering

email: rajit@rufc.ca

 Board focus: Co-Chair of Volunteering

Raji and her family have been active members of the Richmond soccer community since 2017, when her eldest  child first joined the sport. Over the years, they have been involved with both legacy clubs, RFC and Richmond  United, ultimately choosing to remain in Richmond and be part of RUFC, a club whose strong values of  community and family closely align with their own.

Raji currently has three children enrolled in RUFC programs (U14 Boys, U9 Boys, and U9 Girls) and is a constant  presence on the field, often moving between practices and games. She actively coaches both of her younger  children’s teams and has previously served as team manager for her eldest. As a dedicated volunteer and  coach, Raji has completed most of her BC Soccer certifications and brings a thoughtful, inclusive, and  enthusiastic approach to player development and team building.

Professionally, Raji is a part-time registered nurse at BC Women’s Hospital, where she has supported new parents for over 17 years. Her background in healthcare speaks to her deep commitment to service,  mentorship, and community support.  Raji’s dual perspective as both a coach and a parent, combined with her professional experience and long-standing involvement in the Richmond soccer community, makes her a strong asset to the RUFC community.
